A long walk on the Isle of Skye 2012
Panoramic views taken with a Sony Compact
I took quite a few panorama shots during the walk, and as expected the mountain shots are the most spectacular. But each day represents something special and sums up the landscape fairly well. Note that day six is absent due to the weather – you’ll have to read the blog for that one
The most impressive thing about the little Sony compact I use is the 'Sweep'Panorama. You just click the shutter and move the camera around. A tip for anyone shooting these type of shots to stitch together with software such as 'Autostitch' (free on the web) is to hold the camera in portrait position. You get a little more in and a bit less distortion. The Elgol shot was my favourite, along with the 'Fish' loch and the Cuillins.
Day One -
Inver Dalavil on Sleat peninsula – looking over to Rum and the Cuillins
The road from Tarskavaig to Ord – Loch Ghabhsgabhaig – try saying that after a few pints
Just before Tokavaig – across to Beinn Bhuidhe, with the Red Cuillin of Beinn Dearg Bheag beyond
Day Two -
The north shore of Loch Eishort – looking towards Heaste on the right, with the Quartzite hill of Sgiath Bheinn an Uird on the far shore
The track from Suisnish, with Loch Slapin, the Cuillins, BlaBheinn and the Red Cuillins to the right
Day Three -
The south ridge of BlaBheinn towards Elgol with
Camasunary Bay below right
From BlaBheinn south ridge – Loch na Creitheach below Sgurr Hain. The route to Sligachan to the north with Marsco the pointy peak
Day Four -
Probably my favourite panoramic, and a favourite view as well – to the Cuillins from Elgol slipway. The Misty Isle getting ready
Loch Coruisk and the Black Cuillins
the path up to Sgurr Hain – the whole Cuillin range beyond Loch a Choire Riahaich
The ‘Fish Loch’
The view to the Cuillins from the beallach down into Glen Sligachan
Glen Sligachan with Marsco to the right, and Sgurr nan Gillean to the left
looking back to Marsco and Sgurr nan Gillean
the view from near the Sligachan Hotel
Day Five -
Ben Tianavaig from the road from The Braes – the Old Man of Storr in the distance
Day Seven -
looking down from the Trotternish ridge at Creag a Lain to Loch Cuither (NE view)
the view back down to the south along the Trotternish ridge from Beinn Edra
Day Eight -
The north coast with Sgurr Mor on the left – descending from Sron Vourlinn towards the Lon Horro river
Cnoc Roll hill and a distant Rubha Hunish to the north
Looking back to Tulm Island on the right, with Duntulm Castle beyond, and Cnoc Roll with its mast
The End – the top of the cliffs at Meall Tuath before dropping down to Rubha Hunish, with the Scottish mainland in the distance – Torridon. Fandabbydosy
