Flora and fauna

 

A completely different ecosystem is present on the Chalk Downs. Ancient grasslands have been managed by grazing which results in a vast array of species without one plant dominating all others. The same cannot be said of the green lanes where the stinging nettle is doing a fine job of taking over the hedgerows. Here is a selection of plants seen on the route. I'm not sure what the best time of year is to see these at their best but I was quite impressed with the variety given that it was September
