Accommodation
The Townhouse Marbella:
There are thousands of hotels around this coast but I chose the Townhouse for its location next to the old town. It is like a B&B and the rooms are very simply furnished, comfortable and well presented. The hotel doesn’t have dining facilities and the breakfast buffet can be taken downstairs next to the bar or up on the roof terrace – weather permitting. It only has nine rooms so unless it’s the peak season I wouldn’t expect it to get too overcrowded. The service was good and the honesty bar at the roof terrace works well – just write down on a tab what you have. It is great to relax on at any time of day, and all in all I thought it was good value. The only jarring note is the car parking and I had to drive some way from the hotel to get parked up (that’s if I could find a spot). Otherwise its 18euros for an overnight park at the underground car park nearby. Check it out here - http://www.townhouse.nu

Fountainhead, Riogordo:
The reason I chose the Fountainhead was for a very peaceful break. The hosts Peter and Helen made sure we had everything we wished for. This was more like a restaurant with rooms as there are only four suites. Ours was an Indian themed suite with a lounge area complete with wood burner, a kitchen area with fully stocked fridge should you wish to cook lunch, a bedroom and bathroom. Outside was a private terrace with a plunge pool for relaxing in the sun. Included in the tariff for us was DBB, and the restaurant had an interesting ambience, with a very convivial host. The food was superb and we were spoilt for choice every night. Good wines rounded off the experience. The day after I got stuck up a mountain was spent resting and enjoying the bath house relaxation. The service supplied by Peter, Helen and their family was great and I look forward to returning there in the future. The hotel is located north of Malaga and is about a 45 minute drive away.
